How to Apply

Find Your Local Agency: Enter your address above to learn where to apply.

Apply for LIHEAP: Your local Agency will help you apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). If you qualify, your local Agency will send money to your utility companies to help make your bills more affordable.

Receive a Monthly Discount: If you are a customer of Ameren, ComEd, Nicor, People’s, or North Shore, you may also qualify for a monthly discount of 5 to 83% off your bill. The size of the discount depends on your fuel type and your household’s income.

Natural gas discounts are effective now for Ameren Illinois, Nicor, Peoples, and North Shore.

Electric discounts begin January 1, 2026, for ComEd, and June 1, 2026, for Ameren Illinois Electric.

There is no charge to apply for LIHEAP or the monthly discount.
